October Recipe of the Month: Pumpkin Smoothie

With Halloween just a few weeks away, we thought we’d share one of our favorite fall recipes – a pumpkin smoothie. Not only can the bold and rich flavors of this smoothie spice up a boring diet, the following single serve recipe is a great snack and only takes five minutes to make!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup organic canned pumpkin
  • 1 ripe banana
  • ½ cup coconut milk
  • Agave nectar to taste (to sweeten)
  • Pinch of sea salt (about 1/8th tsp)
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice

Optional Additions

  • 1 tbsp raw honey
  • 1 tbsp bee pollen
  • 1 tbsp flax seed oil

Preparation

Put all ingredients in blender and process until smooth.

Flax seed oil on the other hand is packed with both soluable and insoluable fiber, but is also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, the “good” fats that have been shown to have heart healthy effects. There’s even some evidence that flax seed oil can help reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes!
